The latest exhibit in the Front Door Gallery at the Finney County Historical Museum, “The Story of the Quilt” is open through late May, featuring seven quilts and comforters, two dating back a century and all chosen because of the unique stories behind their creation. One was finished recently by Garden City resident Mary Pendergraft, but the blocks were crafted nearly a half-century ago by her husband’s grandmother. A different quilt dates to the U.S. bicentennial, and another is linked to 19th Century Mormon leader Brigham Young. The Front Door Gallery is located just inside in the museum’s main display hall, and admission is free. The location is 403 S. Fourth in Garden City’s Finnup Park, adjacent to Lee Richardson Zoo. The compact gallery hosts approximately six displays and collections each year.
