A well-known resident of an Oklahoma nature reserve has been killed,reports KFOR.Visitors to the J.T. Nickel Preserve near Tahlequah were often greeted by an 8-year-old bull elk, known as “Hollywood.” But last week someone illegally poached Hollywood. His carcass was found, but his head was missing.
The elk had been something of an Oklahoma celebrity, and he could usually be found lounging near the road. The director of the J.T. Nickel Preserve remembered Hollywood, saying “He was not just any elk, he was an elk that people looked for when visiting the preserve.” Hunting is always prohibited on the preserve, which is privately owned by The Nature Conservancy.
The Conservancy is now offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Hollywood’s death. Anyone with information on the poaching incident is asked to contact the game wardens with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
