Can Oklahoma Designate Wildlife “The Property Of Almighty God”?

CC0 Creative Commons

The national men’s health and fashion magazine Esquire took an acerbic tone this week as it lambasted a “rising star” in the Sooner State’s Republican Party.

Ryan Dahm, a GOP State Senator from Broken Arrow, Okla., gained national notoriety this week after submitting a bill to the state Legislature that would officially designate Oklahoma’s wildlife as “the property of Almighty God.”

Senator Dahm is running for national office, hoping to replace Jim Bridenstine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Bridenstine himself has gained his share of headlines in recent months. The Oklahoma Republican’s nomination by the Trump Administration to head NASA has repeatedly been held up in committee and faced staunch opposition from Democrats.

It’s unclear how this legislation would play out in the state’s day-to-day operations.
