Despite a slight drop in the rankings, Canyon is still one of the safest towns in Texas, reports The Amarillo Globe-News.
According to a study known as “SafeWise’s 50 Safest Cities in Texas,” Canyon is the 29th safest spot in the Lone Star State. Last year, Canyon was ranked number six in the state, but a rash of auto burglaries led to a 23-spot demotion. The study only ranks cities with populations of 10,000 or more.
Canyon was the only town in the Texas Panhandle to make the list.
Canyon Police Chief Dale Davis said he wasn’t surprised the city made the list. He attributed some of Canyon’s success to police efforts to educate the populace about preventable crimes. Regarding the auto thefts, Davis reminded residents to “take their valuables out of their car and lock their doors.”
If citizens remember to do those things, Canyon may climb in the rankings once again.
