Clinton Thinks Texas Could Be in Play in November

Hillary Clinton has announced she thinks the Lone Star State could be in play this November for the Democrats, reports Politico. Her comments came in an interview with New York Magazine.

The former Secretary of State told a reporter that she thinks she could turn the red state blue. If she managed to pull it off, it would be the first time in 40 years that Texas has voted for a Democrat for president.

“If black and Latino voters come out and vote, we could win Texas,” Hillary Clinton told New York Magazine’s Rebecca Traister. “You are not going to win Texas,” Traister replied.

In 1976 Jimmy Carter won Texas by a 3-point margin over incumbent President Gerald Ford. He was the last Dem to do so. Republicans have carried Texas by double-digit margins since then, with the exception of 1992 and 1996, when Bill Clinton saw moderate success in the state.
