Veteran’s Day is this Wednesday the 11th, and as they have in years past, veterans will parade around the Texas State Capitol in Austin. And just like in years’ past, the Confederate Flag will make its appearance at the parade, reports Austin member station KUT. The symbol of the Confederacy will be seen at the parade despite attempts by Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt to ban the flag. In an email, Austin Mayor Steve Adler agreed with Eckhardt, calling the flag a “political symbol of hatred and racism.” One flag supporter called the flag a matter of historical document.

Eckhardt’s call to ban the flag has stirred up controversy in Texas, echoing similar battles in states across the US. Travis County will attempt to withdraw its support of the procession in a way that does not imperil the parade itself.
