Exhibit Highlights Oklahoma's Endangered Places

KFOR

A temporary exhibit at Oklahoma City’s City Hall this week is drawing attention to many of the state’s “Most Endangered Historic Places” in hopes of protecting these priceless sites, reports KFOR.

Endangered historic places can be found across the state. This year marks the 81st anniversary of the Works Progress Administration, and there are New Deal Structures in need of attention all over Oklahoma. Other buildings worth saving include the Vannerson Homestead in Erick, Oklahoma, and the First National Bank Building in Stratford.

Quanah Parker’s Star House could also use some loving care. Built around 1890, the Star House was built to house the renowned Comanche warrior, leader, and statesmen.

In western Oklahoma, the section of Route 66 from Bridgeport to Hydro is in need of some care. The stretch of road is important since it provides the first glimpse of the Western plains along the great road.
