We recently completed the changeover to a new, much improved audio management system, including a new program scheduling computer, file servers, workstations and more secure and reliable IT networking between our studios in Garden City and Amarillo. This work involved thousands of audio files and lines of programming code, so you may hear some glitches in our programming as we "burn-in" the system in the coming days. We apologize for any disruptions to your listening. If you have questions or problems to report, please contact HPPR's Technical Director, Alex Fregger (afregger@hppr.org).

Historic Buildings in Amarillo to be Demolished

Amarillo Globe-News

A construction company in Amarillo has announced that it will be demolishing two historic structures this week, reports Amarillo.com. Sunbird Construction will tear down the Jackson Square Apartments, built in 1926 on the corner of South Jackson Street and Southwest 16th Avenue. The company will also destroy a home of approximately the same age to the south of the apartments.

At first, The Amarillo Board of Review for Landmarks and Historic Districts rejected Sunbird’s request. After a year of waiting for the owner to propose a deal to save the buildings, the demolition plan was accepted. In the future, Sunbird also plans to propose the demolition of three more structures to the north of the apartments. A partner in Sunbird Construction says he has no concrete plans for the site of the Jackson Street Apartments.
