In honor of Mother’s Day this past weekend, the personal finance websiteWalletHub has compileda list of the best and worst states for working moms. A couple of High Plains states fared well on the list, landing in the top 10.

Colorado was listed as the eighth best state in the US for working moms, just ahead of Kansas, at number nine. Nebraska also performed well, landing at number 20 on the list. Texas and Oklahoma didn’t look as good, however. Texas came in at number 33, while Oklahoma was at number 36. Vermont was listed as the best state for working moms, while Nevada was named the worst.

Democratic states were found to be much more friendly to working moms, averaging ten slots higher in the rankings than Republican states.

WalletHub’s analysts compared many factors, including child care availability, gender pay gap, professional opportunities, and work-life balance.
