If you want to be truly happy, says The Rural Blog, you might consider moving to Hawaii. The Aloha State grabbed the top spot in the 2015 Gallup-Healthways Well Being Index. The poll ranked states based on a 100 point scale for various elements of a happy life, including Purpose, Social, Financial, Community, and Physical wellbeing.

Of High Plains states, Colorado was the only one to crack the top ten, coming in fourth. Texas was ranked 11th in resident wellbeing. Kansas fell into the middle of the pack, to match its geographical position. Oklahoma, however, had a dismal showing, coming in third from the bottom. West Virginia was determined to be the least happy state in the union.

The West performed well in general. Rounding out the five top happiest states, alongside Hawaii and Colorado, were Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming. The rankings were derived from 177,000 interviews conducted in 2015.
