Praeger endorses Anderson for Kansas Insurance Commissioner

Leon Anderson

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger endorsed Democrat Dennis Anderson at a recent press conference.

Anderson is running to become the next Kansas Insurance Commissioner.  Praeger is not seeking re-election.

At the press conference Anderson touched on the status of the Medicaid expansion in Kansas, the Affordable Care Act, and the Health Care Compact, which would place Medicare under state authority.

“This compact would put in danger the Medicare benefits of nearly 450,000 Kansas senior citizens by taking control of federal benefits and putting them directly under Governor Brownback’s control to do with them as he sees fit,” said Anderson in a press release. “Just as Sandy Praeger did, I want to keep politics and special interests out of the Insurance Department. This office is not about the person holding the title -- it’s about the people we represent. With more than 30 years of experience across all lines of insurance, I am the best person for the job and I look forward to beginning day one in the example set by Commissioner Praeger.”

Praeger spoke of her backing Anderson.

“My reason for being here today with Dennis is because I think he is the best candidate for Insurance Commissioner. It’s with a great deal of pride and confidence in his skills that I am pleased to accept his request to offer my support to his campaign. The people in our department for the last 12 years have worked so hard placing good public policy over politics. That’s why I think it’s just so important that we have an insurance commissioner who will be dedicated to good public policy. So, I’m happy to endorse Dennis to be our next Insurance Commissioner,” said Praeger in a press release.

Anderson faces Republican Ken Selzer in November.
