Students from sparsely populated areas can earn money toward undergraduate and graduate degrees, as reported in U.S. News & World Report.

While a large portion of the nation’s population lives in underpopulated areas, many rural students may be unaware that there is aid available to them. One such initiative is the America's Farmers Grow Ag Leaders Scholarship, sponsored by Monsanto. Applicants for this scholarship must live in one of 1,300 approved counties in 40 states. They also must be under age 23 and have at least three farmers endorse them.

Another option is supplied by The Foundation for Rural Service. This scholarship is for students who plan to return to the rural community following graduation.

And then there’s The Hagan Scholarship designed for high-achieving students with financial need from counties with fewer than 50,000 residents.
