Shrugging Off Indictments, Paxton Hints at Re-election Bid

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says he does in deed plan to run for re-election in 2018. This came as a surprise to some observers, including The Texas Tribune. The Tea Party favorite is currently under multiple indictments.

In 2014 federal and state securities fraud agencies brought charges against Paxton, stemming from his days as an investment adviser. Then, last year, he was indicted by a Collin County grand jury on three felony charges alleging securities law violations. And then again, just last month, the US Securities and Exchange Commission brought charges against Paxton.

Jordan Berry, a political consultant for Paxton, said in a statement: "Let there be no doubt that at the appropriate time General Paxton will make the official announcement that he fully intends to seek re-election and keep fighting for Texas." Paxton was elected in 2014 under heavy Tea Party support and is up for re-election in two years’ time.
