The West Texas A&M University Distinguished Lecture Series will present Dr. Travis Langley in a presentation titled “Psychology of Superheroes” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29 in the Hazlewood Lecture Hall at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum (PPHM). Langley’s talk will explore heroism and psychology in connection with PPHM’s recently opened PDr. Travis Langleyop Culture exhibit.
“It is a unique lecture unlike any PPHM has ever done—a chance to look at real-world issues through the eyes of our favorite fictional characters,” Buster Ratliff, development officer for PPHM, said. “Dr. Langley applies psychology to those characters to give them all a new level of depth.”
Langley, who teaches psychology at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., is the author of Batman and Psychology and the volume editor of The Walking Dead Psychology, Star Wars Psychology, Game of Thrones Psychology and the rest of the Popular Culture Psychology series. Psychology Today also features the prolific writer’s online column, “Beyond Heroes and Villains.” Langley speaks regularly on media and heroism at universities, conferences and popular-culture conventions including San Diego Comic-Con, New York Comic Con and others throughout the world. He is one of the 10 most followed psychologists on Twitter and was an undefeated champion on the Wheel of Fortune.
