Takeaways from Colorado's Campaign Finance

Colorado election campaigns have filed their latest financial reports. Here are a few takeaways, courtesy of KUSA.

First of all, tobacco companies have deep pockets. Pro-tobacco groups have spent $5 million to keep a new tobacco tax from passing. That’s more money than any other campaign has raised in Colorado this cycle.

Next, ColoradoCare YES is having a hard time. The initiative to institute universal health care in Colorado only raised $10,000 during the last filing period.

Third, most of the money being used to support a minimum wage hike in Colorado is coming from out of state. The ballot initiative has raised over $2 million, mostly from groups in New York and California.

Also, the pro-physician assisted suicide campaign is raising and spending a lot of cash—almost $5 million to be exact.

Finally, in three key Colorado Senate races, Democrats are outspending Republicans.
