Western Kansas still has lowest unemployment rates

Kansas Department of Labor

The numbers are out, and once again Western Kansas has the lowest April unemployment rates in the state.   Logan and Ness counties tied for the best rate at 2.2-percent according to the Hays Daily News.

Ellis and Greeley counties followed close behind with 2.3-percent unemployment rates.

Overall western Kansas has the lowest overall unemployment rates.  Northwest Kansas rates are 2.75, down from March’s 3.29 per-cent.

The statewide, seasonally adjusted rate was 4.8 percent, down slightly from March.

"More Kansans are working now than ever before, and the state continues to build on its private-sector job growth," KDOL Secretary Lana Gordon said. "These are strong indicators of a vibrant Kansas workforce."

Unemployment benefit claims were up across the state.  10,186 initial claims were filed in April, compared to 9,669 in March.

Further information about April employment is available from the Kansas Department of Labor.
