Western Kansas farmers have found themselves in a position they haven’t experienced in years, reports KTIC.The wheat crop is off to a healthy-looking start. Farmers aren’t sure if this early growth will translate into bushels next summer, but late November storms have left the wheat looking good.
The wheat in the west is looking better than in the eastern part of the state, which has seen too much precipitation. Some eastern counties saw almost eight inches of precipitation in November. This growing season is part of an El Niño pattern, so far among the strongest on record. Some areas are seeing a 30 inch increase in moisture over last year. This winter is predicted to be warmer than normal.
