Kansans continue to debate how Trump’s presidency is going to affect the Sunflower State, reports The Wichita Eagle.Areas being watched particularly closely include health, veterans affairs, international trade and immigration.
That’s because all of these realms are heavily influenced by federal policy, and they’re all areas where Trump has said he will reverse President Obama’s efforts. State Democrats are hoping some of Trump’s statements don’t amount to more than campaign bluster.
“It’s not going to be easy to do what he talked about on the campaign stump,” said Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau, a Democrat from Wichita. She added, “We’re all just going to wait and see together how it turns out.”
Rep. John Carmichael, a Republican, said he thinks Trump’s plan to deport illegal immigrants could hurt farming communities. “If we suddenly deported those (undocumented) folks, it would have a terrible effect on those (agricultural) communities and those businesses,” he said.
