WTAMU Selects New Site For Buffalo Stadium

West Texas A&M University has selected a site for its new football stadium, reports Amarillo.com.

As university president Walter Wendler announced last week, the new stadium will be located on Russell Long Boulevard in Canyon, on the north side of the campus near the other athletic facilities.

The new facility, which will be known as “Buffalo Stadium,” will replace a large grassy area and an intramural softball field. The selection of the new site means the college will not be forced to relocate the soccer and track facilities, as previously planned.

The horseshoe shaped stadium will hold 12,000 permanent seats, with an ability to expand seating to 22,000 when needed.

Meanwhile, the university is preparing to sell Kimbrough Memorial Stadium, WT’s former field, to the Canyon Independent School District. Kimbrough was built in 1959, and seats 20,000.
