Singer-songwriter Patty Larkin’s new record ‘Still Green’ is her 13th release since she started recording over 25 years ago. The songs reveal her search for respite, relief and solace after the loss of both of her parents and a sister’s serious illness. Written on Cape Cod and recorded in Boston, it is a beautiful addition to her catalog. We will listen to every track this week on High Plains Morning, Monday through Friday from 9am to noon.

Concord, North Carolina’s favorite sons The Avett Brothers have released their second record of 2013- Magpie & The Dandelion. The tracks were recorded with Rick Rubin during the same sessions that produced The Carpenter, their previous release. The brothers have said they wanted to convey a feeling of “youthful wonder” with this record. We will listen to every track as our CD of the week this week on High Plains Morning, Monday through Friday from 9am to noon.

For his fifth album, Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song, Amos Lee has taken a different path for the recording; he worked in a new city(Nashville) with a new producer(Jay Joyce), and, for the first time, he brought his touring band into the studio with him.The twelve songs that resulted—the follow-up to 2011's chart-topping Mission Bell—bring Amos into new sonic territory, while retaining the impact of the scenes, characters, and stories we have come to expect from his songs. We will listen track by track this week on High Plains Morning, Monday through Friday from 9am to noon.

Jimmy Webb has been called one of the greatest songwriters of our generation;  I, for one, agree completely with that statement.  He has created some of the most memorable melodies of the last 50 years.  Jimmy's new CD is called Still Within The Sound Of My Voice;  it is a collection of some of his best  known songs recorded as duets with some friends, including Lyle Lovett, Joe Cocker, Justin Currie, Keith Urban and more.  We will listen to the entire CD this week on High Plains Morning, Monday through Friday, from 9am to noon.

Missy Raines has won the International Bluegrass Music Association's Bass Player of the Year Award 7 times during her career.  On her new record New Frontier,  Missy and her band The New Hip stretch out a bit.  With a batch of songs from Pierce Pettis, Sarah Siskind and Missy herself, she's created a beautiful new work.  We will listen to it track by track this week on High Plains Morning, heard Monday through Friday from 9am to noon cst.

Chicago-based singer-songwriter Susan Werner has worked on concept albums before – from jazz standards to pop classics to Gospel music for agnostics. But now she's turned to her farm roots for inspiration.

Werner, who's currently touring in the Midwest, describes her new CD, Hayseed, as "egg meets art," celebrating agriculture through music.

Over The Rhine is an Ohio-based band consisting of husband-and-wife team Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist.  Their brand new release Meet Me at The Edge of The World is the follow up to their critically-acclaimed release The Long Surrender. The band has again teamed up with Grammy -winning producer Joe Henry to record timeless and vivid songs with striking harmony vocals.  We will listen to it track by track this week on High Plains Morning, heard Monday through Friday from 9am to Noon cst. Tune in!

HPPR proudly welcomes Jerry Barlow back to our Amarillo studios for a Living Room Concert on Saturday, September 14!

Steve Andrew

For the past 3 weeks, I have had guests come in on Friday morning to talk about the upcoming Friends Of Fogelberg show on Thursday, September 5 at the Globe-News Center in Amarillo.  This Friday, my guests will be Jackie Anderson, Bob Flesher and Woody Key, collectively known as AFK!  We'll talk a little about the show, which is the 4th in the series, and it's purpose, which is to raise awareness about prostate cancer.  They will play a couple of songs live in the studio.  Tune in!

The music of Linda Ronstadt on HPM this Friday

Aug 28, 2013

Linda Ronstadt was not only the voice of California in the 70’s; she had a huge impact on an entire generation of singers and songwriters and became a cultural icon in the process. Whether you were a die-hard fan, a casual listener, or an avid hater, you couldn’t ignore her influence or deny her talent.  She had an uncanny knack for knowing a great song when she heard one, regardless of the genre.

There are a few families that show me how love looks and acts.  The Fullers do.  What some might see as a burden, they see as a blessing.  Read Mike’s feature from the Inspire section of Amarillo Magazine to get a glimpse into how this grandfather sees his grandson.

With Mike’s approval, here’s the song he wrote for Max, “Son of a Daughter.”

It hasn't even been 11 full months since released The Carpenter, the North Carolina band's most recent collection of poignant and infectious, bluegrass-inflected folk-rock. And, given the lengthy touring cycle that each major album release generally spawns — the Avetts of last month's Newport Folk Festival with songs from The Carpenter — fans had no reason to expect new music this year.

HPPR welcomes singer-songwriter, guitarist, human beat-box, throat singer, lip trombonist Lipbone Redding to our Amarillo studios for a Living Room Concert on Friday, August 2!  We are located at 104 SW 6th Ave, on the NW corner of 6th and Polk, in the basement of Amarillo National Bank's Special Assets Center.  The doors will open at 7:00, and the show will start at 7:30.  This is Lipbone's first visit to Amarillo- don't miss it!
