Colorado:Election Results 2013

Colorado voters said no to a tax increase that promised smaller class sizes, all-day kindergarten, and smarter education spending.  It was one of the most sweeping school-financing measures in the nation this year, according to The New York Times.

North Colorado secessionist movement origins and plans outlined

The North Colorado secessionist movement has been gaining publicity and momentum as ten counties in northeastern Colorado have decided to put the motion to their voters.

Details are being revealed about how such a movement for counties to secede from the state would work, including the steps necessary in the process of secession as well as the economics of a 51st state.

Also, secessionists have a backup plan for rural voters to gain greater clout in a state that is becoming more urban.

Eastern Colorado Community Has Had It With Liberal Colorado

In the little eastern Colorado community of Cheyenne Wells, the coffee shop talk at Nan’s convenience store reveals locals have had it with gun control laws, marijuana shops, green energy policies, steps to embrace gay marriage and illegal immigrants according to a recent article in the New York Times.

Politics are polarizing in traditionally moderate Colorado.  Colorado has been a swing state for a long time with basically an even split between Democrats, Republicans, and the “unaffiliated.”  However the divide is widening mostly due to the rightward drift of Republicans reported the Economist.

51st State: North Colorado Update

Weld County commissioners recently voted unanimously to place the succession issue of North Colorado on the November ballot reported the Huffington Post.  The ballot initiative will read, “Shall the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, in concert with the county commissioners of other Colorado counties, pursue becoming the 51st state of the United States of America?"

Urban-rural divide fuels Colorado secession plan

In Colorado, you get an increasingly ambitious secession plan.

Weld County, Colo., commissioners have been meeting for weeks on the idea to break away from the rest of the state, citing a string of newly signed policies, including stricter gun control regulations and high standards for renewable energy for rural electric cooperatives.
