My Farm Roots: Grateful to be home

Rose Alderson and her husband Loren have farmed outside of Nickerson, Kan., for decades.

Rose Alderson is a bright-eyed, energetic grandmother who loves her home a few miles outside of Nickerson, Kan. It’s the home her father was raised in and where she raised her kids, but the house is not the most important part of the Alderson place.  

Alderson loves the barn and the silo. Neither building plays much of a role on the farm anymore, but to Rose, they are the soul of the place.

Listeners and listeners of the year

Best Wishes to Ms. Vesta Brant, our very first Listener Of The Year. She is shown here at the Senior Olympics in Cimarron, Ks carrying where she won the Olympian Medal just before turning 98.

On the evening of March 9th, 2012, Jerry Yarnell, master artist, whose television program Paint This with Jerry Yarnell is seen on PBS, was deputized in his Skiatook, Oklahoma studio as honorary Deputy Marshal of Dodge City, Kansas by Dodge City's Marshal Allen D. Bailey. In attendance were several of his staff, friends, students, his Mother Mary, and his Father Joe.

Appearances and awards

Marshal Allen Bailey after the awards ceremony in Mineral Wells, Texas where he was awarded the Disc Jockey of the Year 2010 by the Heroes of Western Music Society. Allen also received a proclamation from the Governor of Texas.

Western Swing & Other Things travels the High Plains territory from time-to-time with appearances and special broadcasts by Marshal Bailey along with Cowgirl Janey.  The Marshal and the program have also garnered many awards over the years both locally and nationally.
