Amarillo Symphony returns to HPPR July 6

The Amarillo Symphony with musical director Jacomo Rafael Bairos in the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts in Amarillo.

A brand new season of performances from the Amarillo Symphony premieres on HPPR this Sunday.

The season begins Sunday, July 6 at noon with a performance of Velocity Festivals by Paul Dooley, a work commissioned for the opening to the symphony's 2013-14 concert season. Hear commentary from the Amarillo Symphony's 17th musical director Jacomo Rafael Bairos, who began his debut season with the symphony with this performance. Also hear the Symphony No. 8 of Antonín Dvořák.

Today, a lot of people don't know what the term "Black radio" means. But starting in the 1950s, Black radio used to be one of the most important institutions in the Black community, not only in Philadelphia, but in cities across the U.S.
