LA JUNTA - The Colorado Nature Conservancy has purchased the 33,000-acre Maverick Ranch just south of town for $8.3 million. The previous owner hailed from Louisiana and decided to sell it. "This is one of the largest and most intact prairie lands in the region," Matt Moorhead, Southeast Colorado program director for the Conservancy said.
