KJJP-FM 105.7 is currently operating at 15% of power, limiting its signal strength and range in the Amarillo-Canyon area. This due to complicated problems with its very old transmitter. Local engineers are continuing to work on the transmitter and are consulting with the manufacturer to diagnose and fix the problems. We apologize for this disruption and service as we work as quickly as possible to restore KJPFM to full power. In the mean time you can always stream either the HPPR Mix service or HPPR Connect service using the player above or the HPPR app.

Expanding public radio in SE Colorado

HPPR has had a presence in SE Colorado dating back to the mid 1980s and now we plan to expand and strengthen that service to the region.

Our objectives and benefits for this project are expansion and enhancement. This project has four primary objectives:

  1. Extend first public radio service to about 19,300 now unserved residents in Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, and Prowers counties of Southeast Colorado.
  2. Fill in the public radio listening gaps along major highways in Southeast Colorado (e.g. US 50 between the Kansas border and La Junta and US 287 between Springfield and Kit Carson).
  3. Greatly improve the public radio signal strength, reliability and quality for approximately 8,900 Lamar area residents now served by the existing 250 watt station.
  4. Equip the station with origination capabilities for local programming in order to:
  • * Broadcast localized community service announcements to promote Southeast Colorado area non-profits organizations and their services (rather than only rebroadcasting announcements from other states in HPPR’s broadcast network);
  • * Broadcast local underwriting (sponsorship) announcements to support broader regional identity and interest from the greater regional service area;
  • * Allow for future localization of the HPPR broadcast schedule to include local and Colorado-based programming.
