KJJP-FM 105.7 is currently operating at very reduced power and signal range using a back-up transmitter. This is because of complicated problems with its very old primary transmitter. Local engineers are currently working on that transmitter and consulting with the manufacturer to diagnose and fix the problems. We apologize for this disruption and service as we work as quickly as possible to restore KJPFM to full power. In the mean time you can always stream either the HPPR mix service or HPPR connect service using the player above or the HPPR app.

Innovators Continue to Find New Uses for Drones

Rural Blog

It seems that every week some enterprising individual invents a new use for drone technology. As The Rural Blog noted last week, drones have been used for wildlife research and preservation, for catching other rogue drones, and even for end-of-life care.

One example: A biology professor recently used drones to discover two species of endangered fish in Alabama’s waterways. The discovery was made possible because drones can access difficult-to-reach lakes and rivers, but the can fly much lower and are more agile than a helicopter.

Another example: a private oceanic research facility in Massachusetts has used drones to collect photographs and breath samples from humpback whales.

And finally, drones are being used to guide blind runners as they make their way around a track. The flying devices follow the runners with cameras and set off a sound warning if the athletes stray off course.
