A popular ten-year-old explorer’s guide to the state of Kansas is receiving an update, reports the Garden City Telegram. WenDee LaPlant and Marci Penner have been working on the book Kansas Guidebook for Explorers 2 for almost four years.
During the making of the book, the pair took 127,000 pictures and went through two cameras. They also went through three sets of tires and put over 100,000 miles on their truck. LaPlant and Penner created the book in conjunction with their nonprofit endeavor, The Kansas Sampler Foundation.
Penner, who hails from Inman, Kansas, says the foundation’s mission is to preserve and sustain rural culture. She adds that the guidebook will help people know, understand and get to love Kansas communities of all sizes. Her writing partner LaPlant is originally from Tribune, but has lived and worked in Garden City for 27 years.
