An urgent safety alert is being issued for owners of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles.
According to a press release issued Monday, Takata airbags from all makes and models of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles are being recalled because faulty inflators can cause the airbags to rupture and then spray metal fragments into the vehicle, causing serious injury or even death to drivers and passengers.
Because the risk of rupture increases in the heat, the auto dealers are launching Airbag Recall Repair Month to urge drivers of all makes and models from the years 2003 to 2013 to check for the dangerous airbags and contact local authorized dealers to schedule free repairs.
The easiest way to check for recalled airbags is with a vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN), typically located on the driver’s side dashboard.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 1.7 million vehicles on the road in Texas are equipped with these dangerous recalled airbags.
Drivers of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles can visit mopar.com to check for recalls and schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer. Drivers of any vehicle can check their vehicles for open Takata airbag recalls at CheckToProtect.org.
There is an urgent need for all vehicle owners with a recalled airbag to have the airbag replaced immediately, regardless of the make of their vehicle. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicle owners who are unable to participate in Airbag Recall Repair Month are encouraged to have this and any other open recalls serviced as soon as possible.
